Excel In Your Profession

Let’s go around the room and introduce ourselves and share about our profession.

What we do and what is the nature of our job. And also we share how difficult is our job.

Do you want to excel in your profession? * Yes

Why do you want to excel in your profession?
- Will feel good / Will feel important / Will be easy / Comfortable / Earn lot of money.

Ok Now, How will you feel if you are not excelling in your profession?
- Feel terrible / Good for nothing / Should have chosen some thing else / Not a good profession for me

It is natural to think other’s profession is good / easy.

Everybody thinks this way only.

Remember others are thinking your profession is easy - that’s OK.

What do you think of fishing profession?
- Messy job / Adventurous / Dangerous / No guarantee

In the Bible we see fishing is one of the main professions mentioned.

Peter’s and Andrew’s professions were fishing. In their life they did fishing forlong. They were experienced fishermen.

May be they will take class on How to fish efficiently?

They may write books “How to be a successful fisherman”

They may write books like “Fishing in 30 days”

But here in Luke 5 we see them discouraged.

Because they tried fishing all night and caught nothing.

Luke 5:1-5
1 One day as Jesus was standing by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the people crowding around him and listening to the word of God,
2 he saw at the water's edge two boats, left there by the fishermen, who were washing their nets.
3 He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
4 When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, "Put out into deep water, and let down the nets for a catch."
5 Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets."

Imagine how you will feel if you have worked all day and got nothing.

That is bad / frustrating / discouraging / embarrassing.

Nobody likes going home with empty nets.
- Nobody likes empty Home
- Nobody likes empty purse
- Nobody likes empty bank accounts
- Nobody likes empty gas cylinder
- Nobody likes empty stomach
- Nobody likes empty cupboards
- Nobody likes empty Churches - we hate it

Emptiness always results in frustrating / discouraging / embarrassing.

These fishermen were empty, felt they were incapable and inadequate they were supposed to be experts but here the situation is different.

Today you may be failing in your marriage / ministry / job / finding job / being fruitful / managing finances.

We will see what happened later.

Luke 5:5-7
5 Simon answered, "Master, we've worked hard all night and haven't caught anything. But because you say so, I will let down the nets."
6 When they had done so, they caught such a large number of fish that their nets began to break.
7 So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them, and they came and filled both boats so full that they began to sink.

The moment Jesus entered in to the boat things being to turn around.

Today if you are in this situation, the only advice I give you is get Jesus in your boat. If you have Jesus as your co-pilot switch seats.(Meaning make him the main pilot)

Let Jesus involve in your ministry / marriage / job / finding job / being fruitful / managing finances These fishermen were already failed and lost, they finished fishing. But they obeyed Jesus.

Today you may be a failure / might have failed. No problem, take Jesus in your boat. And obey what Jesus is saying.

If you are not failing then you are not growing When you try you fail, but when you trust you succeed.

Proverbs 3:5-6
5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

When you just obey, God will bless you way and you will be filled and No empty.

Today we need to just take Jesus in our boats and just obey him.

Many times we think twice the advice given to us and delay obeying them.

Delaying is denying and we disobey and we fail again and again.

Let us make a decision to obey. Then we will excel in our professions.
